Verdict

Joseph O'Brien appears to have a promising team of juveniles in the Juddmonte ownership and MOUNT MERU could be high up in the pecking order judging by the way he chased home an odds-on favourite with previous experience at Gowran Park. The son of Baaeed can make it second-time lucky, although Aladdin's Cave bids to do the same on the back of his Galway third. Jockey bookings do suggest that Kingdom Of Camelot is the primary Ballydoyle contender, with the Camelot colt out to atone for a costly Curragh defeat. Their stablemate Pirate Of Penzance is one of several interesting newcomers in the line-up, with Louis De Foix and Mashad featuring on that list too.

MOUNT MERU made a very promising debut when second at Gowran Park, beaten just three-quarters of a length by a more experienced rival. The extended mile should suit and he looks capable of taking a step forward for Juddmonte and Joseph O’Brien. Kingdom Of Camelot has yet to live up to his hefty price tag, finishing fourth on both starts, but his latest effort came over further at the Curragh and the return to this trip could help. Ballydoyle has won the last three renewals, and Wayne Lordan’s booking is notable. Aladdin’s Cave made a fair start when third in a small-field maiden at Galway, beaten eight lengths, but is nicely bred for Coolmore and should have more to come.
