Verdict

A change of scenery seems to have worked the oracle for SHIPSHAPE. The son of New Bay has won two of his five starts so far for Bernard Llewellyn's yard and, having scored with plenty left in the tank at Hamilton last time, he looks one to keep on the right side of. Narrowly defeated at Wolverhampton last month, Free Speech returns to the turf with solid claims, while Newtown Duke is another to consider.

SHIPSHAPE arrives in solid form after landing a Hamilton handicap last time and, with the Llewellyn yard having taken this race 12 months ago, there is a sense this horse could follow up in current nick. A 3lb rise looks manageable given how well he is holding his form and he can go well again over a trip that clearly suits. Newtown Duke shaped better than the bare result on his return from a break when third over C&D here last time and should strip fitter for that outing, making him a live danger off what still looks a workable mark. Oman comes here in winning form after scoring at Goodwood and remains well treated on plenty of his earlier efforts, though this is a deeper race and he may need a career best to follow up.
