Verdict

KARGESE was a dual Grade 1 winner over hurdles as a juvenile and landed the County Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March. The Willie Mullins-trained mare was set a stiff task on her chasing debut when runner-up to Kala Conti in a Grade 2 at Cork earlier this month and should benefit from the experience. Lovely Hurling filled the runner-up spot behind the impressive Final Demand in a 2m4f Grade 1 novice hurdle at the Punchestown Festival and was unlucky to come up against Kopek Des Bordes on his chasing debut at Navan last month. James's Gate has obviously not been the easiest to train but retains plenty of ability.

This looks a match race between Lovely Hurling and KARGESE. The former placed at the top level over hurdles in the spring and represents a yard where horses tend to improve significantly for fences. He chased home a top class rival first time out in this sphere and should go close if building on it but it is the mare who is preferred. She was a winner three times at the top level over hurdles and added the County in the spring. She looked in need of the run on her recent chase debut where she was given a gentle time after a bad late error but can leave that form behind here. Progressive hurdler James's Gate can complete the tricast on his chase debut if fit after a break.
