A typically small field for this early winter Grade 1, though the pace was strong as Paul Townend made it a test on Lossiemouth, getting to three out 6.1 seconds ahead of the next fastest hurdle race on the card over the same part of the track.
LOSSIEMOUTH was a somewhat surprise declaration for this race, the decision to run her pointing to her position at the top of the Closutton Champion Hurdle team for now at least, and she ran out a bloodless winner. Townend was keen to use her the winner’s proven stamina and went to the front, making this a true test and her rivals were in trouble after two out. Tougher tasks await, though she seems set to race in Ireland before Cheltenham.
GLEN KILN has improved 30lbs in the official ratings in the last year and picked up the pieces having found his hurdling under pressure at a trip short of his best. He may improve again back up in trip.
NDAAWI looked the biggest danger to the winner after three out, but his effort was short-lived, and he failed to see out the trip. He has done most of his winning on better ground.
IRANCY won the Grade 1 novice hurdle over this at the Punchestown Festival, albeit in a race set up for him, but was nowhere near that level on his first start since. He was in trouble after halfway and seems to prefer better ground.
