Expert Analysis

Reporter: Simon Rowlands

A tight finish and not especially good form by this race’s fairly high standards, though the principals just about recorded smart efforts. It was fairly well-run (overall time decent) with the field strung out by halfway, the winner’s final 400m of 23.86s on predominantly “good to soft” going by British standards coming out at a close-to-par 105.2% finishing speed.

BARNAVARA (111 here and previously) got home in front with little to spare but deserves full credit for her smart victory, for all that a couple of others left their challenges a bit late, travelling comfortably in the lead, rousted and grabbing a length or so with 400m to go then ridden and holding on gamely. These conditions seem to suit her well.

SEE THE FIRE (110 here, 117 previously) had no real excuses on the day, just failing to get there having raced in mid-field, but was a few lengths below her very best and may be ideally suited by picking off softened rivals.

ONE LOOK (110 here, 108 previously) finished strongly (in front just after the line) and possibly should have won, taking a bit too long to hit top stride having been rousted 500m out and switched soon after, this a good effort on form all the same.

WEMIGHTAKEDLONGWAY (110 here and previously) continues to run well, this probably only just enough of a test after she tracked the pace and was pushed along fully 600m out.

GRAND STARS (109 here and previously) was fastest of all in the final section, ending up with a fair bit to do having been steadied going a bit freely early. This was up there with her best efforts so far in any case.

TAMFANA (109 here, 116 previously) may have needed this to put her spot on after 141 days off, running respectably having been well positioned, but flattening out late on. She has form under a variety of circumstances but 8f on softer than good is perhaps ideal and she may still encounter that in the weeks ahead.

START OF DAY (107 here and previously) ran creditably, always around the same place.

NICORENI (99 here, 103 previously)

ROYAL DRESS (97 here, 103 previously)

QILIN QUEEN (96 here, 107 previously) may be slightly flattered by her G2 win here in July (run of things from front at 2400m) but should have fared better even so, kept wide from her high draw early.

JANUARY (95 here, 113 previously) has her quirks and seemed more inclined to hang right than go forward late on here (had been slowly away).

MERVEILLEUX LAPIN (83 here, 97 previously)
