Expert Analysis

Reporter: Simon Rowlands

Not exactly a strong Marcel Boussac, with the home contingent (sans My Highness) somewhat limited to date, but there was a lot to like about the way Diamond Necklace went about her business, and she should show herself to be smart, or possibly even better than that, before long. It was quite a tactical affair on ground that translates to predominantly “good to soft” in British terms, the pace on the steady side and late speed tested. The winner’s final 400m of 22.29s comes out at a 113.6% finishing speed.

DIAMOND NECKLACE (109+ here, 104+ previously) looks a grand prospect, unbeaten in 3 and having quickly achieved very useful, but likely to be better still next year. She travelled well in mid-field, came a bit wide in the home straight and took 200m or so to respond to Green Spirit’s quickening before running on well to lead with 100m to go, nicely on top by the line. A St Mark’s Basilica half-sister to Magic Wand and the Irish Oaks winner Chiquita, among others, she should be suited by 10f, and likely 12f in 2026.

GREEN SPIRIT (107 here and previously) confirmed herself one of the best French-trained juvenile fillies (and juveniles full stop for that matter) but could not match an even better one from Ireland, well placed as things unfolded, leading again 500m out and quickening a length or 2 up briefly then run down with 100m to go. A daughter of Kingman, she may not stay much further than this.

NARISSA (104+ here and previously) finished the same amount behind Green Spirit as she had in the d’Aumale the time before but shaped better than that one this time, towards the rear before making headway 300m and going on best of all bar the winner by the line. She should be suited by further next year and has a Group race with her name on it somewhere along the line.

ESNA (104 here, 86 previously) took a step forward from her Sandown novice win, steadied initially then in mid-field before keeping on. She would not be sure to stay much further than this.

AYLIN(104 here and previously) ran well, showing useful form again, soon prominent after being rousted early but one paced late on.

CLEA CHOPE (103 here, 101 previously)

OZONE (99 here, ? previously)

VENOSA (91 here and previously)
