A weak affair in terms of form going in but the first 2 came clear and it’s worth viewing their efforts as useful by novice standards. It was a well-run affair despite the smallish field with the on-screen sectionals pointing to a 60.95s final 4f (98.6% finishing speed) on ground that was between “soft” and “heavy” and which was very clearly the latter towards the end of the card.
ROADLESSTRAVELLED (h140 here, 127+ previously) seems a straightforward type, one who goes from the front, and he put that to good effect, setting a sound pace and fiddling a few, shaken up and looking to have a fight on his hands going to 2 out but more fluent than the second thereafter and staying on well for pressure. He is one of the best British-trained novice hurdlers at this stage though still behind the best of the Irish.
COUNTRY MILE (h136+ here, 115+ previously) could well prove the best prospect in this still, his inexperience counting against him at a crucial stage after he had tracked the pace and moved up threateningly going to 2 out, less than fluent there but rallying to just a length down when getting the last wrong. He impressed with how strongly he travelled, as indeed he had in both his previous wins, and is not in need of further just yet.
BOLD LIGHT (h112 here and previously) is just an ordinary hurdler and was feeling the pinch from a long way out, though keeping to his task like one who will get a fair bit further.
ROCHEVAL (h104 here, 121 previously)
LILY DU BERLAIS (h94+ here, 125 previously) went a bit freely close up and caved in from 3 out, not as bad as the bare result.
